Nov 14, Rio de Janeiro: Tourist activities registered an increase for the fifth consecutive month, pointing to the sector's recovery. The index grew 11.5% in September in comparison with August and the highlights are the services of air transportation of passengers (19.2%) and accommodation and food (9.1%).

In the accumulated result of the last five months analyzed, the sector has already registered a gain of 88.8%. The data are from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

The Minister of Tourism, Marcelo Álvaro Antônio, estimates that the consecutive increases in the economic movement of the sector indicate that the actions taken by the Federal Government helped to reduce the impact of Covid-19. "We continue to work to show that we are ready to make tourism one of the pillars of the economic recovery of our Brazil, respecting all the biosafety protocols", he points out.

The fifth positive rate followed was recorded in all 12 units of the Federation where this indicator is analyzed, with emphasis on Bahia (33.7%), Distrito Federal (26.2%), Goiás (19.35) and Ceará (18, 2%).

Since the first cases of the new coronavirus, the Federal Government has adopted all necessary measures to protect Brazilian tourism and workers. Among the actions were the guarantee of job maintenance, regulation of consumer relations, credit offer for entrepreneurs and guarantee of health security for tourists.

Resumption of Tourism

Last Tuesday (10), the Federal Government launched the Resumption of Tourism and the campaign “Travel with responsibility and rediscover Brazil”. It is a national alliance that, with security and responsibility, seeks to accelerate the recovery of the sector and reduce the socioeconomic impact of Covid-19.

Led by the Ministry of Tourism, the initiative brings together efforts from the public and private sectors, the third sector and the S System so that tourism fully resumes activities in a gradual and planned manner, again generating jobs and income in the country.

The Resumption of Tourism brings together a set of programs, projects and actions that range from reinforcing the concession of credit lines to capitalize companies in the sector and preserve jobs to works to improve the infrastructure of tourist destinations.

Qualification actions for workers and service providers are also foreseen, both in the offer of courses for the adoption of health protocols that guarantee safety for tourists and workers in the segment and for the improvement of service, considering market trends. An example is a partnership between the Ministry of Tourism and the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Tocantins (IFTO), which offers a qualification course in English and Spanish for tourist guides.
