Brazil will have the first office of the World Tourism Organization in Latin America

The announcement was made by the secretary-general of the WTO who highlighted the work carried out by the Brazilian government

Sep 28, Brazil Tourism: The World Tourism Organization (OMT), a United Nations agency specialized in Tourism, decided to bring a regional office to Brazil next year, the first in Latin America. The announcement was made by the WTO secretary-general, Zurab Pololikashvili, during the Abav Collab, a virtual fair organized by the Brazilian Association of Travel Agencies (Abav). Zurab thanked the support and the work that has been carried out by President Jair Bolsonaro and the Minister of Tourism, Marcelo Álvaro Antônio, and stressed that the measure will boost tourism in South America.

“Brazil is advancing in the development of innovation and qualification, including in the field of rural tourism. I believe that having an office in Brazil will be a very important and very interesting project that will give more attention to the region and give a boost and help to develop tourism ”, said Pololikashvili.

During the event, Minister Marcelo Álvaro celebrated the decision of the WTO and stressed the overcoming power of tourism, which, after reaching unprecedented marks of growth in 2019 and suffering losses due to the Covid-19 crisis, returns to advance in Brazil.

“The opening of Abav Collab marks the beginning of a new chapter in our industry, the beginning of the resumption of our activity. And, for this to happen quickly and safely, the Ministry of Tourism has been developing several measures to guarantee the safety of professionals and tourists. We launched here the Alliance for the Resumption of Tourism, in order to elaborate actions in the areas of road tourism, innovation, qualification and promotion of destinations so that the sector returns to the pace of growth ”, said the minister.
