Oct 25, FIES: Those with debts in the Student Financing Fund (Fies) will be able to renegotiate debts with discounts of up to 100% on late payment charges. The resolution on the Special Regularization Program was published in this Thursday (22) edition of the Federal Official Gazette.

Contract debts granted until the second half of 2017, due and unpaid until July 10, 2020, can be renegotiated.

The resolutions take effect on November 3. To join the program, it is necessary to request this option from the financial agent until December 31, 2020. The resolution also defines that the amount of the renegotiation portion cannot be less than R $ 200.00.

Payment methods

There are two ways to regularize, settle or split the total debit balance. For settlement, the debt can be paid in a single instalment with a 100% reduction in default interest, as long as it is settled by December 31, 2020. Another way is to pay the total debt balance in up to four instalments with the reduction of 60% of interest. For this option, payment will go through December 31, 2022.

People who choose to split the total debt balance can have three forms of discount. In up to 24 monthly instalments, the interest deduction will be 60%, with the first instalment due in March 2021. In up to 145 instalments, with 40% interest reduction and, finally, up to 175 instalments with a 25% reduction % of interest. The maturity of the first instalment in these latter cases will be in January 2021.

In case of extension of the national public calamity state, due to the new coronavirus, the payment of the first instalment will be made only in the month following the end of the calamity state, except for the case of liquidation in a single instalment.

Default

In case of non-payment of three consecutive or alternating instalments of the renegotiated debt balance, the person responsible for the contract will lose the right to the discount granted on charges and the corresponding amount will be reinstated to the financing debit balance.

Those who have debts in court and want to join the special regularization program must resign the lawsuit in court. In this case, the waiver on any claims of law is irreversible and does not relieve the plaintiff from the payment of legal fees and fees.

Fies

Fies is a Federal Government program that aims to provide financing to students in higher education courses from private institutions with a positive evaluation in the processes conducted by the Ministry of Education.

The new Fies, reformulated in 2017, divides the program into different modalities, allowing zero interest and a financing scale that varies according to the applicant's family income.
