Blue November
Prostate cancer is the second most common among men in Brazil, according to the Inca. To raise awareness among the male population about the importance of prevention, early diagnosis and treatment of the disease, this month the Blue November mobilization takes place.
The Inca estimates the appearance of 65,840 new cases of prostate cancer each year, between 2020 and 2022. Men over 55 years old, overweight and obese are those who are most at risk of developing the disease.
The early diagnosis of the disease to allow the treatment of the tumour at an early stage is what provides the best chance of treatment.
In addition to attention to prostate cancer, the Ministry of Health is strengthening care for oral cancer, as this is the fifth most incident in the male population. A working group will develop guidelines to articulate and qualify the disease prevention and control network. The Inca estimate for the 2020 to 2022 triennium is 11,180 new cases per year.
Men's health care policy
Since 2019, the National Policy for Integral Attention to Men's Health has been in the Unified Health System (SUS), which has guidelines to encourage the male population's access to primary care. Among the objectives are to make men seek consultation at the health centre at least once a year and to encourage self-care.
It is men between 40 and 59 years of age who most seek care at health centres in primary care, representing a 50% increase in the number of individual care since 2018.
