Military conclude Kayapó Mission, in Pará
Over eight days, over 5,000 indigenous people benefited from health actions.
Nov 28, Para: For eight days, the Kayapó Mission took health professionals and more than three tons of medical supplies to reinforce the fight against Covid-19 in indigenous communities. The interministerial action, coordinated by the ministries of Defense and Health, came to an end in Ourilândia do Norte (PA).
Since November 17, more than 5,000 Kayapó indigenous people have been benefited by a team of more than 60 people, 26 professionals, including doctors, nurses, nursing technicians and veterinarians from the Navy, Army and Air Force.

The contemplated villages were Turedjam, Kikretum, Kokraimoro, Moikarako, Kubenkrãnkrehn and Gorotire, in addition to a centralized service at the Casa de Saúde Indígena (Casai), in Ourilândia do Norte.
During the action, more than 700 rapid diagnostic tests of Covid-19 were promoted, in partnership with the Laboratory of Clinical Analysis Hilab, a technology company from Curitiba (PR).
In all the villages visited, the views of the Indians and the speeches of the coordination teams of each community were acknowledged for the work performed by the soldiers of the three Forces. Chief Akiaboro, general leader of the Kayapó community and Kokraimoro village, thanked the initiative of the Defense and Health portfolios. “I thank everyone for their work for what they are doing for us during this crisis. You have contributed a lot to my Kayapó people. Come back more often, ”he points out.

According to the mission's administrative coordinator, Lieutenant Colonel Klaus Raylen Tavares Rêgo, all the planning for the mission was carried out. “The result was extremely positive. All the villages that were to be assisted and supplemented in health were visited. In addition to health care, we managed to bring 5.2 tons of basic baskets, cleaning and hygiene supplies. I consider the Kayapó mission a success ”, he concludes.
