260,353 formal jobs generated in Brazil in January 2021

Brazil generated 260,353 formal jobs in the first month of the year according to the New General Register of Employed and Unemployed (Novo Caged).

March 17, Sao Paulo: The balance was the result of 1,527,083 admissions and 1,266,730 dismissals. The result is the best for the month since the start of the historical series in 1992.

The Minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes, affirmed that everything indicates the resumption of the Brazilian economy. "There are signs, whether in the Central Bank's activity index, in the creation of jobs at Caged, or in the collection of the Federal Revenue, there are signs everywhere that the Brazilian economy is taking off again."

Guedes also highlighted the importance of creating the Emergency Income and Employment Preservation Program (BEm) last year, which allowed the preservation of 11 million jobs with more than 20 million contracts signed.

Well

The program was created in April to preserve jobs that were threatened by the impact of the new coronavirus on the economy. To this end, it authorizes companies, when there is an agreement between employer and employee, to proportionally reduce the working day and salary or temporarily suspend the employment contract.

According to the minister, the Government is studying the renewal of the program. “We are going to renew BEm exactly to guarantee the maintenance of jobs. We are studying job insurance which is, instead of waiting for someone to be fired and pay 1,100 reais after the person is fired and have a five-month guarantee, we want the 11-month guarantee and where we pay 500 reais for the person to remain employed instead of paying for the person to have been fired ”, explained Guedes.
