Nov 26, Brasilia: São Paulo residents now have their own home with the delivery of 257 apartments from the Manuel Bueno I Housing Complex, this Wednesday (25), by the Ministry of Regional Development. More than 1,000 low-income people have benefited.

The Federal Government's total investment is R $ 28.8 million. Another R $ 9 million in state and municipal counterparts were applied. The project is located in Itaim Paulista, 40 kilometres from the capital.

And the home itself comes with guaranteed water, sewage, drainage, electricity and public lighting infrastructure, as well as public transport. Families will only need to travel around 1.5 kilometres to access daycare centres, five schools, two health posts and three security posts.

"We are carrying out the mission of the Ministry of Regional Development to bring a better quality of life to Brazilian citizens and a promise from our President Jair Bolsonaro that all works would be delivered, including those stops that are being resumed," says the national housing secretary from the Ministry of Regional Development, Alfredo Eduardo dos Santos.

The development

The Manuel Bueno I Housing Complex will consist of 300 units divided into three blocks with eight units per floor. Each apartment is about 48 square meters. By the end of the year, more families should be qualified to receive another 43 units.

Investment in housing and resumption of works

This year, the Ministry of Regional Development has invested more than R $ 1.65 billion of the federal budget in the popular housing program. Of the total, R $ 1.38 billion was earmarked for the continuation of housing works to serve beneficiaries with a monthly income of up to R $ 1.8 thousand.

In recent months, the ministry has delivered housing units in several states. In early September, São Paulo also received 1,052 low-income housing units in three groups, benefiting 4,200 low-income people.

The developments are located in the neighbourhoods of Jardim São Luís and Guaianases, in greater São Paulo, and in the municipality of Praia Grande. Investments amounted to more than R $ 186 million, of which approximately R $ 60 million has been available since last year.
