Nov 19, Brasilia: Part of Operation Covid-19, the Ministries of Defense and Health will support the Kayapó Indigenous Land community in the Base Pole of Ourilândia do Norte, in Pará.


On Tuesday (17), health professionals, Personal Protective Equipment ( PPE), materials, medicines, vaccines and tests to detect the new coronavirus. Brazilian Navy, Army and Air Force (FAB) will carry out the actions until November 24th.



The action, called “Kayapó Mission”, will have a team of more than 60 people, 26 of whom are health professionals in the areas of pediatrics, gynaecology and obstetrics and general practice, in addition to nurses and nursing, laboratory and veterinary technicians. The expectation is to benefit more than 6 thousand Indians from the villages Turedjam, Kikretum, Kokraimoro, Moikarako, Aukre, Kubenkrãnkrehn and Gorotire.


More than three tons of inputs were sent to the region by FAB aircraft. “We are going to serve a series of isolated villages, which are in need of our support. It is the second time that we have returned to Pará, since we have already been to Tiriós, in the northwest of the state.


The Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Health, through this interministerial action, will fulfil what we determine, which is to bring health, guidance, means, supplies and medicines to indigenous communities in villages ”, declares the Secretary for Personnel, Education, Health Ministry of Defense Sport, General Manoel Luiz Narvaz Pafiadache.


According to the mission's administrative coordinator, Lieutenant Colonel Klaus Raylen Tavares Rêgo, the mission, in addition to bringing health to isolated communities, aims to mitigate the impacts of the new coronavirus. “Our intention in this interministerial mission is to assist the largest number of Kayapó Indians in support of health and awareness in the fight against Covid-19 in the villages”, he points out.



The military personnel of the mission will stay overnight, until November 24, at the Base in Ourilândia do Norte (PA), and will travel daily to the villages, using helicopters and vehicles from the three Forces. The Operation also has the support of the Special Secretariat for Indigenous Health (Sesai), the National Indian Foundation (Funai) and the Special Indigenous Health District (DSEI).


Operation Covid-19

On March 20, the Ministry of Defense activated the Joint Operations Center, to coordinate and plan the employment of the Armed Forces in the fight against the new coronavirus. In this context, ten Joint Commands were activated, covering the entire national territory, in addition to the Aerospace Operations Command (COMAE), which is permanently operational. The initiative is part of the Federal Government's effort to confront Covid-19.
