Government announces 4G mobile broadband coverage and WiFi program at Praça on Ilha do Marajó (PA)

Six locations will benefit from 4G, most of which are located in rural areas

Oct 11, Quality and free internet on Ilha do Marajó, in Pará. The communities of the archipelago will now have 4G coverage and a new free internet point, through the WiFi in the Square program. The action is part of the Abrace o Marajó Program, presented this Friday (9) by the Federal Government, in Breves (PA).

"We are bringing connectivity," said the Minister of Communications, Fábio Faria, who participated in the ceremony in Breves. “We know that today the question of the internet has become something essential, an essential service; and we are bringing it here to the region ”, he added.

Broadband

Six locations in the interior of Marajó Island will benefit from the implementation of mobile broadband coverage with 4G technology. Most of them, in rural areas, with poor internet access. They are: the districts of Mainard, Câmara do Marajó, Retiro Grande, Piriá, São Miguel do Pracuúba and Joanes. In total, more than 7 thousand people will benefit.

"We are bringing 4G to 350 cities in Brazil, but mainly in the North and Northeast," said the Minister of Communications.

Ilha de Marajó is included in the Conduct Adjustment Term (TAC) signed between the Federal Government, through Anatel, and TIM. The agreement provides for 4G coverage in 350 municipalities in the North, Northeast and Midwest of the country. This structure is expected to be completed by 2022. According to the Ministry of Communications, approximately three million Brazilians will be supported by the expansion of the mobile phone network.

Wifi in the Square

The WiFi na Praça project allows free and unlimited access to the internet through a satellite antenna, installed by Telebras in public squares in communities with low or no internet connection. According to the Ministry of Communications, the antenna is connected to the Geostationary Satellite for Defense and Strategic Communications, providing a 20 Mbps connection with coverage over a 200-meter radius available to any citizen.

“This Telebras antenna will bring WiFi in the Square here, free WiFi starting today. And taking a 200-meter radius. The first place was there in my state, in Rio Grande do Norte, which is the size of the island of Marajó. And the second in Brazil was here, in Breves ", said the minister.

The Corcovado community, in Breves, will be served by the project. In August, WiFi in Praça was taken to the city of Angélica, in Rio Grande do Norte.

Electronic government

The Electronic Government Program - Citizen Attendance Service (Gesac) was responsible for the installation of 94 broadband internet points via satellite in all 12 municipalities of Marajó Island during the Government of President Jair Bolsonaro. These points are in schools, health units, border, college and library.

Of the 94 points, 79 were installed in rural areas and 15 in urban areas.
