Oct 9, In order to serve a region that concentrates municipalities with a low Human Development Index (HDI), Ilha do Marajó, the Action Plan 2020-2023 of the Abrace o Marajó program was launched on Friday (9) in Breves, Pará. There are 110 initiatives aimed at generating jobs and income, improving education and health.

“Here, R $ 1 billion is already budgeted for Marajó in the first phase. By the end, we will go over R $ 4 billion ”, said the Minister of Women, Family and Human Rights, Damares Alves, when announcing the action plan.

President Jair Bolsonaro and a delegation of ministers attended a ceremony in Brief to announce the measures. The Abrace o Marajó program was launched in March this year with the aim of promoting the socio-economic development of the 16 Pará municipalities that make up Ilha do Marajó and improving the population's living conditions.

Itinerant Ombudsman

One of the initiatives included in the action plan is the Itinerant Ombudsman, which will take Dial 100 and Dial 180 - services for reporting human rights violations - Caixa's two boat agencies to serve the Marajoara population. The boats serve municipalities in Pará and Amazonas.

The action is a partnership between the Ministry of Women, Family and Human Rights with Caixa and will allow riverside communities and residents of cities that do not have in-person channels for this service to be received by the ministry's employees on the vessels.

“Inside the Caixa boat, there will now be a national human rights ombudsman. Dial 100 and Dial 180 will be inside the Caixa boat and a server from our ministry will be inside for people to protect women and children. I need to send a message to pedophiles, child abusers: it's over for you at Marajó, ”said Minister Damares Alves.

According to the ministry, in 2020, two trips will be made. As of January next year, the project is expected to be implemented on a permanent basis along the route of the boat agencies.

Dial 100 and Dial 180 are free services for reporting human rights violations and violence against women.

The plan also provides for human rights training activities for municipal managers. It also has actions to expand access to the internet and electricity through renewable generation systems. And projects to serve people with disabilities.

Food Security

Through Operation Bread of Life follows the delivery of basic food baskets to ensure food security and the distribution of hygiene items in Covid-19 times.

The goal is to deliver 96,000 baskets to all locations in the archipelago. Approximately 28,500 baskets and 200,000 hygiene items have already been distributed.

Development

With support from the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES), Abrace o Marajó will implement the modernization of the 16 prefectures of the archipelago. The objective is to improve the means of serving citizens and companies. The initiative is expected to be delivered in 2022.

Activities should also be developed to stimulate new local enterprises.

Embrace the Marajó

The program has the participation of 16 ministries and is coordinated by the Ministry of Women, Family and Human Rights. It also has the partnership of other bodies and institutions to carry out the actions provided for in the action plan.

According to Minister Damares Alves, the local population will be able to monitor the execution of the Abrace o Marajó Program. "Every Marajoara will receive the plan on his cell phone for you to monitor whether it is being done or not and charge the minister, the government and whoever is executing the project," he said.

The archipelago is home to around 500 thousand people and includes the municipality with the worst HDI in Brazil: Melgaço. There are others that make up the list of the 50 worst indexes in the country. According to the ministry, Ilha do Marajó has high rates of sexual exploitation and violence against children and women.
