Oct 9, Brazil: The start of services that will bring electricity to the population of the municipalities of Ilha do Marajó (PA) was started, through the Mais Luz for the Amazon Program. The action is part of the Federal Government's Embrace o Marajó, which was launched in Breves (PA), this Friday (9th), and has more than one hundred initiatives for the region.

The authorization for the program's first contract was signed at a ceremony attended by the President of the Republic, Jair Bolsonaro and the Minister of Mines and Energy, Bento Albuquerque.

The state's energy distributor, Equatorial Energia Pará, will be able to start projects for photovoltaic generation systems in the homes of Marajoara families, who, until then, used a diesel-powered generator. These photovoltaic panels will generate electricity from renewable sources for families that live far from the distribution networks.

According to the Minister of Mines and Energy, Bento Albuquerque, it is more dignity and citizenship for families in the region. "In two years, all these people will have light, dignity, citizenship," said the minister. "That is not leaving anyone behind, as President Bolsonaro guides us."

With Mais Luz para Amazonia, more than 10,000 calls should be made in the next two years. This will allow the promotion of activities aimed at expanding family income, the sustainable use of the region's natural resources, environmental preservation, the establishment and inclusion of traditional communities.

More Light for the Amazon Program

The More Light for the Amazon Program was launched by the Federal Government in February this year to promote access to electricity for the Brazilian population located in remote regions of the states of the Legal Amazon. The program aims to help in the social and economic development of these communities, which live, essentially, from fishing, flour production and the extraction of nuts and fruits.

Mais Luz para Amazônia will serve more than 350 thousand people. There are about 80 thousand calls that will be made in the North of the country, with investments of more than R $ 3 billion. In Marajó Island alone, 42 thousand people will benefit, with resources of R $ 3 million.

From the installation of electricity, communities will also be able to receive other public policies, such as schools and health centres.

The Program proposes to serve the population residing in remote regions of the states that make up the Legal Amazon: Acre, Amapá, Amazonas, Mato Grosso, Pará, Rondônia, Tocantins and Maranhão, and who do not yet have access to this public service.

“We are bringing energy to those who have never had this opportunity, and this will be very important for their sustainable development ”, concluded Minister Bento Albuquerque.
