Brazil: University Hospital of Lagarto starts operations using CT scanner
Equipment will provide faster and more accurate diagnoses

Sep 2, The Hospital Universitário de Lagarto (HUL), of the Federal University of Sergipe, started using a tomograph to perform exams on patients. The equipment is considered one of the most advanced for diagnostic imaging and will allow viewing images in three dimensions, ensuring greater precision and agility.
For the acquisition of the device and execution of the necessary infrastructure adjustments for its installation, R $ 2.4 million were made available, resources from the Ministries of Education (MEC) and Health (MS), through the University Hospitals Restructuring Program Federal (Rehuf). The hospital's tomography structure also has a puncture/preparation room, a control room and a room for making reports and discussing exams.
Paulo Secundo, a radiologist and technician responsible for the unit, said that the equipment will also be essential in the care of patients affected by Covid-19. "With it we will have faster and more accurate diagnoses, reducing the stay of patients in the hospital and providing increased service to users", he said.
Assistance, teaching and research
For the superintendent of the HUL, Manoel Cerqueira Neto, the arrival of tomography marks a watershed within the process of care, teaching and research of the hospital. "Now we will have the opportunity for a wider scope in diagnosis and therapy, as well as in the learning process of UFS students", he stressed.
“With the arrival of the equipment, patients will no longer need to wait for transfers to other health units to perform the exam”, recalled Érico de Pinho, Health Care manager. “With this, HUL takes another important step in expanding services and improving care for users, ”he said.
