Evaluation that measures the quality of higher education was released by Inep

Oct 25, Education: The courses of public institutions of higher education performed better than those of private institutions in the National Student Performance Exam (Enade) 2019. The results of Enade were released on Tuesday (20) by the National Institute of Educational Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira (Inep).
The exam assesses students' performance in relation to the syllabus in the undergraduate course. Groups of courses are evaluated at each edition. Of the courses classified in range 5, the best score in the indicator, 81.4% are from public institutions, while 18.6% correspond to private institutions. The data is part of the Enade Concept, calculated from the performances of the graduating students of the undergraduate courses at Enade.
Enade 2019 also shows that 60% of graduating students benefit from public subsidies or financing, such as the Student Financing Fund (Fies) and the University for All Program (ProUni). Of those who received subsidies from the Federal Government, 71% are the first in the family with access to higher education.
Among the 1,225 participating institutions, 85% are private, while 15% are public. Private school students were the majority (76%) among those assessed at Enade 2019
Regarding the profile of the participants, 55% are women and 45% men. In all, 84.6% are between 18 and 33 years old.
Course evaluated
At Enade 2019, bachelor's degrees in engineering, architecture and urbanism, agrarian sciences, health sciences and related fields were evaluated, in addition to technical courses in the areas of environment and health, food production, natural resources, military and security.
Taking into account the students' performance in the tests, the courses are classified according to a scale of 1 to 5. Concept 3 is a kind of average. Those who performed less than most receive concepts 1 or 2. Those who obtained superior performance receive concepts 4 or 5.
The objective of the exam, according to the president of Inep, Alexandre Ribeiro Pereira Lopes, is to provide subsidies to improve higher education in the country.
“We have students spread across Brazil with great results. Enade's goal is not to rank, but rather to provide a set of information to society and advance studies to improve the quality of education, ”he said.
Presential teaching predominates
According to the exam, 371,692 students completed higher education through face-to-face study and 18,151 through distance education (DE). Among face-to-face students, 20.7% obtained grade 4 and 6.3%, grade 5. In distance learning, 10.7% achieved grade 4 and 6%, grade 5. Approximately half of these courses were “below average”, 46% with concept 2 and 5.3% with concept 1.
"The result is as expected and now it is important to dive into the data to improve the quality of education in Brazil," said the president of Inep.
