Nov 7, Brasilia: The Armed Forces, together with 16 state and federal agencies and public and environmental security agencies, carried out, from October 22 to November 2, preventive and repressive actions against cross-border and environmental crimes, of prevention and awareness of the fight against Covid-19 and hospital assistance in the states of Pará and Amapá as part of Operation Ágata Norte.


In order to contribute to the fulfilment of the mission and complement the activities of Operation Green


Brasil II, about 4,400 military personnel from the Brazilian Navy, the Brazilian Army and the Brazilian Air Force participated in the Agate Norte, in addition to 72 naval means, one hundred terrestrial means and 14 airborne.



They developed actions in an area between the States of Pará and Amapá, equivalent to 16.3% of the national territory, 14.2% offshore of the total, 1,160 km of coastline (15.7% of the total) and 1,323 km of the land border (8.4% of the total), is divided into five areas of activity: Santana-Macapá-Oiapoque, Xingu-Jari, Belém-Tocantins, Estreitos and Santarém-Tajapós-Trombetas.

Seizure of manganese and incineration of drugs

Between October 22 and 25, Operation Ágata Norte seized 146,000 tons of manganese in Vila do Conde (PA), and eradicated 3,000 marijuana plants in Ipixuna (PA), equivalent to one ton of the processed material. The actions were carried out by the Armed Forces, the Federal Police, Ibama, the National Mining Agency and the Federal Revenue Service, which acted in a coordinated and integrated manner. All the ore seized was of illegal origin, mined in Pará and sold with "heated" invoices by companies that have mining permits. In addition to the ore, machinery was seized. This was the largest seizure ever made in the state.



Wood Seizures

On October 22, the Pampeiro Patrol Ship boarded a vessel that was transporting 2,500 wooden stakes without an invoice, near Portel (PA). The cargo was presented to the municipality's Environment Department. Also on the 22nd, with the support of the military and agents of the Federal Police and Ibama, 147 cubic meters (m³) of illegal sawn wood were seized in Vila do Conde (PA). On the 23rd, NPa Guanabara approached a convoy, composed of two pusher boats and two rafts, at the exit of the south channel of the Pará River, carrying around 500 logs of irregular wood. In Santana (AP), on the Amazon River, 12m³ of wood were seized.

Civic-Social Actions

The Hospital Assistance Ship “Soares de Meirelles” brought medical and dental care to the population of Breves (PA). The activities took place on October 24, 25 and 26, employing doctors, dentists, nurses, pharmacists and nursing technicians from the Armed Forces. In all, 620 medical care, 620 nursing and 117 dental care were provided. There were also the distribution of 23 thousand medicines and 1,640 oral hygiene kits to those present. At the time, 150 laboratory tests were also performed.
