Nov 7, Brasilia: The pre-test of the International Student Assessment Program (Pisa) is scheduled for May 2021. The objective of this step is to improve the assessment and verify the functioning of the test items. The main study in the next edition has been postponed to 2022 due to the period of social detachment. Preparations continue in all participating countries.

Even with the postponement, the sample of selected schools will not be changed. However, the National Institute of Educational Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira (Inep) will make new contact with educational institutions to confirm the interest in participating in this edition of the program.

Pisa assesses three domains: reading, mathematics and science. Each edition has the main domain. In this way, students respond to a greater number of items in that specific area of knowledge. Pisa 2022 will focus on mathematics, with an additional Financial Literacy assessment and an unprecedented Creative Thinking test.

The results of the program allow each country to assess students' knowledge and skills compared to other countries. Pisa also allows an exchange of policies and good practices between participating nations and economies, which serves as a basis for the formulation of educational strategies and programs, with the aim of increasing the quality and improving the equity of learning.

Postponement

The next edition of Pisa was scheduled to take place in 2021. However, with the difficulties imposed by the period of social detachment, the member countries and associates of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) decided to postpone the application of the main study of 2021 for 2022. As a result, Pisa 2024 will take place in 2025.

Pisa

Promoted every three years by the OECD, Pisa is an international comparative study that offers information on the performance of students in the 15-year age group, the age at which the completion of compulsory basic education in most countries is assumed.

Since the first edition, in 2000, the number of participating countries and economies has increased with each cycle. In the last edition, in 2018, the tests and questionnaires were applied in more than 80 countries. There is national coordination in each participating country. Inep is responsible for planning and operationalization in Brazil, which has participated in the program since the first edition.
