Sep 21, Transit and Transport: The recovery and paving of BR-319, an important link between the states of Amazonas and Rondônia, will bring economic and social gains to the region, according to the Minister of Infrastructure, Tarcísio Gomes de Freitas. In a videoconference held on Monday (21), with governours of the North Region, the minister stated that paving stretches of the highway are one of the Government's priorities in the area of infrastructure.

“We can no longer admit that the state of Amazonas does not have this connection with the rest of Brazil, that an important capital like Manaus is isolated from the rest of Brazil. It is one of the works, if not the most important in the North Region, the most emblematic that, now, begins to take its body ”, declared the minister.

This Tuesday (22), the initial step will be taken to begin the reconstruction of 52 kilometres of BR-319, between kilometres 198 and 250, a route known as “Charlie Charlie”. On the date, the result of the notice for hiring a company that will prepare the basic and executive projects of the works will also be released.

The reconstruction will ensure greater safety and reduce travel time. Currently, the alternatives to the highway are transported by boat or plane. "Those who use this highway are usually humble people, who need this connection, who cannot take a plane," said the minister, stressing the importance of the work.

According to Tarcísio Freitas, the works follow the guidelines of Organs environmental agencies and should serve as a model in the preservation of the environment. The project includes new drainage devices and recovery of degraded areas. More than 100 thousand native seedlings will be planted in the segment. Twenty aerial and 12 underground fauna passages will be installed to pass animals crossing the road.

“It is important to reaffirm our commitment to make BR-319 a model work with regard to preserving the environment. We will show, from this endeavour, that development can coexist with sustainability ”, stated the minister.

The governor of Amazonas, Wilson Lima, spoke about the importance of the highway. “We want BR-319 not only for the sake of economic development but for social development, to guarantee citizens the right to come and go. It is not fair that we remain isolated, Amazonas and Roraima, from the rest of Brazil, ”he explained during a videoconference held on Saturday (19).

The governor of Rondônia, Marcos Rocha, highlighted the potential for interconnecting the BR-319 with other states. “We know how important it is [highway] for our producers, but it [highway] is not only important for Rondônia and Amazonas. It is important for Roraima, Amazonas, Rondônia, Acre, and for all the other states in our country because it will make the connection. This path between the states of Rondônia and the Amazon will re-exist. And that is to treat our populations in these four states with respect ”, he emphasized.

More works on BR-319

The first 198 kilometres of the BR-319 are paved and have conservation and maintenance contracts, as well as the final 164 kilometres. Thus, the next step, after the “Lote Charlie” works, is the paving of the so-called “Trecho do Meio”, with 405 kilometres of extension - it goes from kilometre 250 to 655.

According to the National Department of Transport Infrastructure (Dnit), studies for the environmental license of the “Trecho do Meio” were sent to Organs responsible bodies and the project has already been contracted. “Our plan is that, in 2022, we have the entire length of Highway 319 contracted and in services. Then, it is a matter of time to deliver it [paved] all paved ”, concluded the Minister of Infrastructure.
