Sep 3, Industrial production increased by 8% in July compared to June. Data from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), point to three months of growth. “In July, there is a positive behaviour with a widespread profile with all economic categories advancing production and 25 of the 26 activities also in the positive field,” said the manager of the Monthly Industrial Survey, André Macedo.

Highlighted, according to him, is the motor vehicle sector, driven not only by the greater production of automobiles but also by auto parts trucks.

The activity “motor vehicles, trailers and bodies” increased 43.9% in July 2020, driven by the return to production after the interruption due to the coronavirus. IBGE reported that the sector accumulated an expansion of 761.3% in three consecutive months of growth in production.

Other relevant positive contributions on the total of the industry are metallurgy (18.7%), machinery and equipment (14.2%), metal products (12.4%) and clothing and accessories (29.7%) %).

Among the major economic categories, durable consumer goods had the third month of growth. There was an increase of 42% in July in relation to the previous month.

According to the IBGE, the result of the last three months does not eliminate the losses observed in March and April, a period of worsening social isolation due to Covid-19. But he says that growth reduces the accumulated loss by 27%.
